RAJKOT: Political bigwigs of the Congress party will reach Gondal town of Rajkot district to attend a mega congregation, which is being organised as part of the ongoing celebrations to mark 125 years of Indian National Congress’s existence in the country.
Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has organized this regional level meet, which is the third of its kind in the state, at Vrindavan Park-2 in Gondal.
According to president of Rajkot District Congress Committee Govind Ranpariya, Congress leader and political advisor to Sonia Gandhi, Ahmed Patel, will inaugurate the sammelan while GPCC president Siddharth Patel will preside over the function. “Former chief minister Shankersinh Vaghela, leader of opposition in Gujarat state Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil, BK Hariprashad, member of parliament of Congress from Saurashtra region and other leaders will be present on this occasion. “We are expecting more than one lakh people at the sammelan,” said Ranpariya.
Earlier, two sammelans were organized in Haripura in south Gujarat and in Patan in north Gujarat. “During the three-hour programme, leaders will talk about the successful schemes of Congress-led UPA government for farmers and poor people. We will also give memorandum of our demands to Ahmed Patel, enlisting the kind of problems certain sections of the society are facing, to represent our case to the Centre,” Ranpariya said.
Congress leaders are also keeping in mind the next elections in various local urban bodies in the state that are due in the coming days, according to a local Congress leader.
